The research capacity development component of CARISCA seeks to use ASU supply chain management (SCM) faculty and industry partners to provide technical assistance to strengthen KNUST’s capacity to apply global best practices for development-relevant research in new SCM research topics with applications in healthcare and agriculture and other sectors. In addition to foundational SCM topics, CARISCA explores possibilities for integrating emerging SCM research approaches, including advanced technologies, localization of SCM in emerging markets, and low-infrastructure solutions. The centre draws upon local faculty experts to adapt and integrate relevant research topics based on in-country and pan-African needs. The research capacity development currently uses the following approaches to achieve its goal annually;
Capacity strengthening of SCM research programs
CARISCA offers a comprehensive capacity strengthening program to KNUST that builds a strong foundation to promote innovative SCM research that can be translated into solutions to meet local needs, inform effective training for students and practitioners and enable it to lead and sustain CARISCA in the long term. The centre’s approach combines biannual, hybrid in-person/online workshops with extensive virtual and in-person mentoring and support for KNUST faculty, staff, students and others to help their SCM programs achieve global standing. Workshops and follow-on support are designed for faculty at all levels, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and promising undergraduates.
The Annual Summit for Supply Chain Research (SCR)
The Summit of for SCR is hosted by KNUST on an annual basis using the gathering of supply chain researchers to address development priorities and showcases locally relevant SCM innovations. The summit invites higher education institutions throughout Africa and a wide range of public, private, and civil society organizations stakeholders to source challenges that can inform research, provide insight into supply chain innovations emerging in the field, and expand CARISCA’s base funding and partner support as well as maximze the inclusion for disadvantaged stakeholders using fund scholarships for qualified students and practitioners. The summits feature panel discussions, speakers, and research presentations addressing topics related to inclusive supply chains and showcasing research by women and disadvantaged researchers.
