How Africa Matters to the Global Supply Chain
This year’s summit will take an in-depth look at How Africa Matters to the Global Supply Chain, and we hope you will share your research, knowledge and insights as a presenter.
This year’s hybrid event will feature in-person and virtual presentations. In-person sessions will be held in Ghana at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi.
Submit your abstract online by February 28, 2022, to be considered for this year’s summit.

Track Two: Sectoral Supply Chains
- Health/pharmaceutical supply chain
- Humanitarian operations and disaster management
- Agriculture and commodities supply chain
Track Three: Emerging Issues in Global Supply Chains
- Globalization and supply chains
- Sustainability issues in supply chains
- Emerging technologies in supply chains including blockchain technology, big data analytics, predictive analytics and artificial intelligence
- Global supply chains and grand challenges
Submissions are due by Monday, February 28, 2022. Authors will be notified of the acceptance of their abstracts by the end of March 2022.
About CARISCA
CARISCA is dedicated to capacity-building activities to close the skills gap in supply chain management in Africa. For many years the African continent has been ignored in global supply networks because of the perceived and real challenges of doing business in Africa.
Although there has been some upward movement in recent years, significant challenges undermine Africa’s position in global supply chains. Critical among these challenges: a propensity for civil conflicts and political unrest that can disrupt supply chains, increased risk of economic instability due to overdependence on commodity exports and financial mismanagement, weak institutions and socio-cultural structures that are unfriendly to business, the dominance of informal supply chains, and underdeveloped infrastructure.
The Center for Applied Research and Innovation in Supply Chain – Africa (CARISCA) is a partnership between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and Arizona State University (ASU) with support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
CARISCA’s key objective is to support higher education institutions in building the capacity necessary to provide best-in-class degree programs and training, facilitate research translation and utilization, and engage stakeholders in best practices and policy changes that strengthen supply chains.
In 2021, CARISCA hosted over 300 individuals from 40 countries at its inaugural Supply Chain Research Summit, A Supply Chain Vision for Africa, and we’re looking forward to expanding our footprint in 2022!
